Creating synergies to anticipate market developments is SACMI’s goal: hence our presentation, at Metpack 2023 (Messe Essen, May 2-6), of the latest range of vision systems for metal packaging.
A new design philosophy based on customer needs focuses on modularity, space saving and efficient operation of the systems. In parallel, SACMI offers increasingly precise controls, with systems dedicated to each specific product.

Integrating digital printing with vision inspection
Among the major developments presented at the show was the first solution on the market that integrates the production and quality control of digitally decorated veneers.

SACMI DMD is the digital alternative for decorating metal sheets used to manufacture packaging in the food and beverage industries, among others.
Why go digital? Traditionally screen printed, decoration is a vital component of packaging as it enhances product quality and brand recognition. Hence the need for ever-increasing customization, which in turn has resulted in generally smaller batches, reducing the efficiency of traditional decorating lines (high-speed systems that can produce more than 7,000 sheets per hour, but are too rigid when small batches and quick changeovers are required).

The DMD is revolutionary in two ways: first, it can decorate at speeds of up to 2,500 sheets/hour). Secondly, it frees decoration from the rigidity of conventional systems (reduced changeover times, no overstocking).

Now available with heads offering resolutions up to 600 dpi, SACMI offers a DMD that, for the first time, integrates with the ECLIPSIM DECO vision system. What are the advantages? First, with SACMI, manufacturers can count on a single supplier that guarantees quality, reliability and worldwide support. Secondly, this pairing lays the foundations for “intelligent” line management, which begins with the customer placing the order and continues with proactive (and, in the future, retroactive) monitoring of possible production deviations.

SACMI offers the most complete range of metal packaging inspection systems on the market. That is, coated and lithographed sheets, but also caps, lids, containers and cans. All these systems share the latest generation CVS (Computer Vision Software) and patented solutions (Chrometriq and ElioScan) that offer the best reliability in the field of metal inspection.

Modular and flexible, fast and precise: SACMI has improved all its systems in both technology and scope. The latest generation systems on display at the show feature several innovations, such as the lighter and more compact architecture of the electrical panel. SACMI also presents MetalSight, the new all-in-one platform that summarizes SACMI’s approach to metal vision systems… an approach that starts from the customer’s needs.

Visitors to Metpack will have the unique opportunity to see a range of inspection cells, each dedicated to a specific product line.
And that’s not all. These systems are increasingly used on production lines and SACMI now takes things to the next level on the “control” side with a new operator interface. Called Classy-AI, it incorporates advanced artificial intelligence algorithms that classify defects and generate real-time warnings and statistics. This means that operators can operate the systems, even if they are not experts in vision systems, with the valuable help of an interactive dashboard.
