Alupro, the aluminum packaging recycling organization will be the latest sponsor of the Student Starpack Awards 2023. Organized by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), the competition challenges university students to create innovative packaging solutions to solve problems set by leading brands.
In addition, Alupro published a comprehensive report on the competition objective, assigning the applicants to redesign the packaging of a product within the dry food and beverage market using aluminum. The judging team will be looking for originality, functionality and, most importantly, design for recycling.
Apart from winning a prize of £500, the winner will also take home a personal VIP tour of a manufacturing plant that makes the beverage cans at Crown Packaging Ltd. in Leicestershire or Carlisle.
Tom Giddings, Alupro’s chief executive officer, said: “We are delighted to announce that we will be returning to sponsor the Student Starpack Awards for the third time. This will be an excellent platform to inspire the next generation and encourage them to challenge convention and embrace creativity, as well as showing why aluminum is the perfect packaging material.”
The goal of the 2023 report is to highlight the widespread application of aluminum as a packaging medium. “This material can be infinitely recycled and it is important that participants think good enough to introduce it into their designs, thereby reducing reliance on secondary packaging,” he added.
Kate Harrison, director of operations and professional development at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, added, “We are extremely grateful for Alupro’s continued sponsorship of the Starpack Student Awards, as it allows this inspiring awards program to continue to inspire the packaging designers of tomorrow.”
The Student Starpack Awards were established to recognize and reward emerging packaging designers to encourage them to pursue innovative new ideas for the UK packaging industry.
