Checkmate Mate, the canned beverage created by university miners, is born

Created by their friends, Alex Freire and Gabriel Rochael, in 2016, at the time engineering students at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Sheikh Mate is a blend of rum, mate, guarana and lemon sold in 355 ml aluminum can.

The partners started selling in glass bottles, with production at a friend’s brewery. Then, with an investment of 100,100 Brazilian reais, they bought the machinery to tie the beverage and set up a factory to produce the beverage. <> m2.

The choice of the aluminum can was aimed at facilitating consumption in open places, because Sheikh Mate has always been linked to street parties, in addition to reducing waste production.

Currently, the company is located in a 2,000 m2 plant, has 90 employees and the capacity to manufacture 300,300 liters per month. The novelty soon became a fever in Belo Horizonte, which already has several distribution points for the beverage. Sheikh Mate has also spread to São Paulo parties, where it arrived eight months ago and is sold at 100 points of sale.
