HENKEL EXPANDS PRODUCTION AND STRENGTHENS ITS COMMITMENT TO THE MONTORNÉS DEL VALLÉS PLANT

Germany-based Henkel reinforces its commitment to the Montornés del Vallés plant, where it expanded production between 2017 and 2018. The company tripled its processes to increase production in the industrial sector, its types of technologies and products manufactured.

Specifically, the German multinational invested more than 1.5 million euros and the Montornés del Vallés plant has once again consolidated its position as the Group’s production center of reference in Europe.

Henkel’s production site in Montornés del Vallés (Barcelona) triples its extrusion processes thanks to a new investment, enabling it to triple the existing extrusion machines for the production of technologies for the industrial sector, from cut parts, to die-cut parts, to a large volume of coils.

Extrusion consists of extruding a shape and the desired proportions from reactive mass or rubber. The products obtained by this technique are widely used mainly by the automotive industry but also for consumer products, boilers or caravans, among others.

“This project has been quite a challenge as it had to be carried out in a very demanding timeframe, only one year, and it started in 2021 coinciding with the COVID -19 pandemic and the consequent restrictions. We are very pleased with how the team has worked and that we have been able to expand the staff of this section by 80%,” said Laia Colldeforns, Lean & Production Extrusion Adhesive Manager and project manager.

More than 1.5 million euros have been invested to carry out the project. In addition, Henkel Ibérica has received the support of Catalonia Trade Investment, the area responsible for attracting foreign investment from ACCIÓ (Generalitat de Catalunya), and the Montornés del Vallés town council.

Germany’s Henkel, one of the world’s leading cleaning multinationals, invested around 70 million euros in 2022 to strengthen its presence in Spain and Portugal. The plant in Montornés del Vallés, which is a reference center for Henkel products, employs more than 500 people and exports to more than 60 countries. In recent years, investments of around 70 million euros have been made, which have enabled the start-up of a new detergent packaging line, a new production plant for adhesives for the aerospace industry and the new automatic Laundry & Home Care warehouse for Southern Europe. Thanks to all this, the plant was recognized last year as a model factory by the World Economic Forum, the first factory in the Iberian Peninsula to receive this distinction.
