NOVELIS EARMARKS $2.5 BILLION TO BUILD ITS ALUMINUM RECYCLING AND ROLLING MILL IN ALABAMA

The multinational company Novelis Inc. continues its expansion process in the USA. The leading provider of sustainable aluminum solutions and world leader in aluminum recycling and rolling began construction of its Bay Minette, Alabama plant for which it has earmarked an investment of $2.5 billion.

Specifically, this highly advanced facility is expected to generate at least some 1,000 new direct jobs and will have an initial capacity of 600 kilotonnes of finished aluminum products per year focused on the beverage container market, with flexibility for automotive production. The multinational adds that the new recycling center for beverage cans will help increase the company’s recycling capacity by 15 billion cans per year when it is at full capacity.

For his part, Steve Fisher, president and CEO of Novelis noted that, through this investment, they hope to demonstrate the strength of growing partnerships with customers. “The commitment we have to sustainably grow our business and the innovative and forward-thinking approach we are taking to modern manufacturing,” Fisher said, adding that the company is committed to the future. The company hired its central commanders to lead the multi-year effort to build the facility. At the moment the construction works have started with earthworks, excavation and piling. Over the next 3 months, Novelis will construct two new roads in the area and expand the utility infrastructure necessary to begin building construction. Commissioning of the facility is scheduled for mid-2025. The company selected a leading engineering firm as its site design, engineering and construction contractor, an Alabama-based firm to serve as the earthwork contractor and several manufacturing equipment suppliers that have long-standing relationships with Novelis worldwide.

Also, during the opening ceremony, Boney announced the company’s plans to invest 150. 000 to South Alabama nonprofits over the next six months. Novelis also invited attendees to recycle their beverage cans and cups at the event in partnership with Mobile Coca-Cola Bottling Company. To encourage recycling throughout the community, Novelis recently launched a partnership with Baldwin County to provide recycling garbage cans and education in all county-owned buildings. Finally, the company plans to invest in additional opportunities to encourage and incentivize Alabamians to recycle more frequently.
