One hundred years ago, the famous Orlando brand went from exporting canned food to manufacturing the legendary fried tomato. It recently launched the world’s first fried tomato pie to celebrate its name day. The recipe was prepared by its chef Iván Sáez.

Throughout the 20th century since 1912, innovation has been a core value for Orlando and has been a constant companion of the company. The brand’s objective has always been to defend the quality, flavor and local characteristics of the product in order to keep them alive wherever it is sold.

Orlando, who has had a great period of success thanks to his slogan “¡Cuate aquí hay tomate!” which best represents that generation born between the 60s and 2000s, acknowledged that there are several cultural changes in the country. But the important thing is that, regardless of all these changes, “As much as everything has changed, this is still a country with a lot of tomato”.

The company started in San Sebastian in 1922 as a producer and exporter of canned fish. But it wasn’t until 1968 that Orlando launched what would become the brand’s flagship product: fried tomato. In the 1980s Heinz took over the company. It is now part of The Kraft Heinz Company group, following the transaction announced in 2015 of Heinz’s purchase of Kraft.
