The Italian Christian Cavaletti, revalidated and broke his own record by accumulating more than 12,000 Pepsi cans of different designs. Cavaletti was recently recognized for hoarding the largest collection of cans of the well-known Pepsi brand in the world, as he has in his possession to date a total of 12,402 different cans.
Cavaletti’s unusual hobby began in 1989 when his particular fondness for collecting each of the cans that the American brand put on the market with different designs and illustrations led him to professional collecting. As the number of soda cans grew and Cavaletti became more effective in his plans as a professional collector, he was recognized in 2004 by Guinness for his impressive collection of cans, which at first reached the amount of 4,391 cans stored exclusively of the Pepsi brand.
Almost 20 years later, the Italian has been increasing this figure and at 50 years of age, Cavaletti has once again revalidated the number of Pepsi cans stored, achieving a new Guinness award. The Italian collector, who is a member of the National Pop Can Collectors Club and the Pepsi-Cola Collectors Club, stores his collection in his basement, which is organized chronologically and has a representation of 81 different countries.
Among his most prized ‘jewels’ in his unusual collection are the first edition of the 1948 Pepsi can, a 1960s prototype and a reproduction of the ‘space can’ that was made in 1985 for the STS 51-F space mission, or otherwise known as Spacelab-2.
Also noteworthy in its repertoire is a set of cans launched in Spain during the 1980s with super heroes from the Marvel Universe and ‘Aviones de Combate’. That collection could fetch $40,000 on the market.
In recognition, Pepsi sent him a special edition where he discovered the can with the Guinness certificate. With this new record, Cavaletti surpasses Canadian Gary Feng, who holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of Coca-Cola cans, with 11,308 pieces.
