With summer already upon us, sometimes our refrigerator doesn’t perform fast enough to cool drinks. An Instagram user has discovered the ultimate trick to shorten those long waits to get your drinks chilled.

One of the most common tricks is to put our drink in a container with water, ice and salt. This trick has always existed, since it is a chemical process, and it will allow us to cool a drink in a few minutes, as opposed to putting it in the freezer or refrigerator.

Another system is with hydrogel cubes that can be molded to taste, they cool like ice cubes, but have the added advantage that they do not melt, which we have for these emergency cases.

In addition to all of these tricks, here’s one from an Instagram user named Lorafied, who has discovered a new trick that practically freezes your drinks in a matter of 10 minutes. It is really simple and economical. It consists of wrapping the soda can with one or two layers of paper towels and then putting it in the freezer. Lorafied claims you can enjoy an “ice cold” drink just 15 minutes later, or if you’re desperate in 10. This user claims that if salt is added between the two wet paper towels, it will cool down even faster.

Everything responds to a chemical process, the air in the freezer is completely dry, so the water in the wet paper layer (or towel) will evaporate quickly, cooling the bottle. This is not the case in the refrigerator, which would cause it to cool slightly slower, as there is little evaporation. However, be careful not to overuse this trick as it will cause ice to build up in the freezer.
