The multinational company Alcoa made it official that, due to the continuing operational challenges of the market, it will proceed with the immediate reduction of a smelting line at the Warrick Operations facility in the state of Illinois.
Each of these plants has approximately 54,000 metric tons per year. The production line is expected to be reduced to the last five tons. Alcoa Warrick Operations has a total rated capacity of 269,000 tons. It is divided into five fuel lines, of which three contain a specific individual capacity of 161,000 tons.
John Slaven, executive vice president and chief operating officer, confirms that the move is to protect production on the other two operating lines to ensure that they reduce that capacity. Alcoa, the world’s leading producer of bauxite, alumina and aluminum products, seeks to reinvent the aluminum industry for a sustainable future.
