Multinational AkzoNobel has announced that it will invest in a new production line for water-based texture paints at its Songjiang site in Shanghai, China, increasing capacity to supply more sustainable products. Specifically, the new 2,500-square-meter facility will produce Dulux products for various markets, such as interior decoration, architecture and leisure.
Dulux is one of the company’s four largest plants worldwide and the new facility in China will be produced with Dulux products for decoration especially for living rooms, swimming pools and so on. “As AkzoNobel’s largest single-country market, China has enormous potential,” says Mark Kwok, AkzoNobel’s president for China/North Asia and business director for China/North Asia Decorative Paints. “The new production line will help enhance our dominant position in paints and coatings by expanding into new markets further driving us towards our Grow & Deliver strategic ambitions,” adds the executive.
The opening of the new production line with an advanced VOC emission reduction system at Songjiang Cosmetics has involved an investment of nearly €7.5 million since the beginning of 2021. Other recent projects include the introduction of new solar systems and a more automated power supply line.
However, the coatings industry in China is advancing rapidly, often driven by the country’s growth in energy conservation and emissions reduction. Therefore, applications for low VOC waterborne paint are needed to meet today’s demands. AkzoNobel, the manufacturer of paint products and chemical tools, has been including a role in its production line since it entered its ISO14001 certifications.
