Soft drink giant Coca Cola and Jack Daniel’s whiskey maker Brown-Forman Corporation have teamed up to sell an alcoholic cocktail in a can with 5% alcohol. The new beverage, which will have a sugar-free version, will begin to be marketed in Mexico at the end of the year before being made available in other markets around the world.

Back in 2018, The Coca-Cola Company launched Lemon-Dou, its first ready-to-drink alcoholic beverage, in Japan. Lemon-Dou was an experiment in the fast-growing Chu-Hai beverage category in Japan. Lemon-Dou was also the company’s first entry into the alcoholic beverage market since the late 1970s, when Coca-Cola owned a winery in California.

Coca-Cola President and CEO James Quincey says, “We keep consumers at the center of everything we do to expand our portfolio. We focus on the consumer and offer more choice, including in rapidly expanding flavored alcoholic beverages.

At Coca-Cola, Khalil Younes is responsible for leading FABs. “We are experimenting and learning strategically in alcohol. We are excited about the opportunities, but we also know it will require effort and patience.”

Jack Daniel’s & Coca-Cola joins a portfolio of flavored alcoholic beverages using the company’s brands, including Lemon-Dou, currently available in Japan, China and the Philippines; Topo Chico Hard Seltzer, where it is marketed in more than 20 markets; Schweppes premixed cocktails, currently available in Brazil; and the new Simply Spiked Lemonade and Fresca Mixed in the United States.
