Nearly 6 billion cans are produced in France each year. France has some of the most modern production lines in Europe, since 80% of the cans sold are manufactured in the country, while 30% of the metal cans are destined for international markets.

The French can industry has 28 factories and research and development centers. A healthy industry that generates 1,000 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs nationwide. The sector has been dynamic and has dedicated 250 million euros to investments in the last 3 years.

The trend is that the proportion of aluminum cans is expected to increase due to the transformation of production lines. About 60% of the cans are made of aluminum and 40% of steel.

The many advantages of the can continue to appeal to all generations of consumers. Proof of its success is that almost 8 out of 10 French people, 79%, now drink canned beverages, up from 71% five years ago. In stores, cans are mainly sold in 33cl format, which represents 62% of the cans purchased. Cans have a strong development potential in France in the coming years, estimated at more than 1 billion cans, especially due to the reduction of the place of plastic bottles, the expansion of cans to new types of beverages and the progression of emerging markets. Seven Eiffel Towers could be built with the metal recovered from the collection of all the cans.
