Hindalco Industries Ltd (HIRAKUD FRP) has joined as a new ASI Production and Processing member. The Hindalco Hirakud-FRP plant, located in Sambalpur district, Odisha, about 325 km from Bhubaneswar, has one of the most sophisticated rolling mills in the country. Spread over 50 acres of land, this plant was conceived in the joint evaluation of the Hindalco and Novelis teams in April 2009.
The project received management approval in September 2009. However, hot commissioning of the plant began in October 2012 and commercial production started in April 2013. Hirakud FRP currently produces about 22% of Hindalco’s total rolled products.
