Users from all over the country have donated to the Red Cross the points obtained by recycling their beverage cans and plastic bottles with RECICLOS in order to help those affected by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma.

Through recycling, the users of the 61 localities in the country where RECICLOS, the Ecoembes Return and Reward System (RDS) is located, have shown their solidarity and have decided to help the victims of the volcano on the beautiful island by donating the points obtained from recycling their cans and plastic beverage bottles to the Red Cross.

During the three months that this social incentive has been available on the RECICLOS platform, more than 1,000,000 points have been obtained, which has allowed a total of 170,000€ to be allocated to the Red Cross. With the money raised, the organization will be able to identify the most urgent needs of those affected by the volcanic eruption, respond in the emergency and recovery phase and assess the needs for reinforcement of human teams in the affected areas.

Jaime Gregori, Director of Marketing, Fundraising and Corporate Alliances of the Spanish Red Cross, says that “thanks to every citizen who has done their bit. Once again, it is confirmed that when we row towards the same horizon, wonderful things happen, such as this alliance with Ecoembes, whom we thank for this initiative.

Nieves Rey, Director of Communications and Marketing at Ecoembes, added that “the Spanish people have once again demonstrated that recycling can go beyond caring for the environment and can also make an important contribution at a social and solidarity level. We are very proud of the response from citizens and of the results, which shows the conviction that we must build a more collaborative and inclusive community.
