Emballator Metal Group in Ulricehamn, Sweden, is looking for students with studies in engineering, logistics or other subjects who plan to do their final thesis to investigate how the company can reduce metal waste.
Ulrica Emanuelsson, quality and environmental manager at Emballator Metal Group in Ulricehamn says: “We have about 20% tinplate scrap, which is unavoidable, but we can reduce the waste. We want to map the whole journey from the tinplate delivered to us, through to production and deliveries to our customers. We want to know where the potential for improvement lies,” he says.
“It’s a very broad topic and we think the most important thing is that the student or students are interested in the topic. If we use less tinplate, we will also reduce our environmental impact and carbon footprint. It is an important sustainability project in the industry,” says Emanuelsson.
For Emballator Metal Group, sustainability is in focus in many ways, for example by upgrading and optimising products and using less raw materials. All metal waste from production is sold for recycling, but the company believes it can be reduced further.
