Abal, the Brazilian Aluminum Association has just announced its entry into the International Bauxite Standardization Forum. Precisely, the quality of Brazilian bauxite is a current issue with many open fronts since it is very competitive in the international market and standardization facilitates this understanding.

The manager of the Technical Area of Abal, Denise Veiga, explains that it was carried out within the scope of the Special Study Commission of Aluminum Minerals, Aluminum Oxides, Primary Aluminum and Inputs for the Production of Primary Aluminum (CEE-145) of the Brazilian Aluminum Committee of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), whose management is under Abal’s responsibility.

Veiga also highlights that %22China, as a major consumer of bauxite in the world, reactivated the ISO subcommittee, which until then had a low representation of producing countries. As a result, there was a risk that international standards would be published without a broad debate with all those involved%22 and adds that for this reason %22it is important that we participate in this Forum because it defines the standards for sampling, sample preparation and analysis of bauxite for commercial transactions%22.

Abal will play an important role and lead the aluminum industry in this process. For this reason, it was decided to find out if the subject was being dealt with by the international committee, as there were no ISO standards in force on the subject.
