Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) has been awarded for its contribution to the environment and its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. Specifically, it is the Olive Branch plant in Mississippi, which received the 2020 Carbon Emission Award from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for having the lowest CO 2 emissions in the entire segment of the primary metals and fabricated metals industry in the region.
This award recognizes the excellent work being done to reduce emissions in specific industrial categories throughout the Tennessee Valley, primarily through the use of renewable energy sources. Despite a significant increase in production, it managed to reduce CO 2 emissions by more than 5% by 2020.
Claude Marbach, CEO of Ardagh Metal Packaging – North America, said awards like this reaffirm the company’s commitment to sustainability through the products it manufactures and the processes used for production. “We are committed to building on this leadership through aggressive carbon reduction strategies that further support our customers’ sustainability goals and strengthen our local community’s environmental improvement efforts,” he adds.
The award is also a symbol of the progress TVA’s commercial organisations have made, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 60% since 2005. “The Carbon Reduction Award gives us the opportunity to recognize and thank Valley businesses for their ongoing commitment to improving air quality,” said Dan Pratt, TVA’s senior vice president of Regional Relations who added that “we could not have achieved these reductions alone.”
“It takes a partnership between TVA, local utilities and Valley industries collaborating together to achieve these remarkable results.” AMP’s carbon reduction strategies are aligned with the Science-Based Targets Initiative and the achievement of the UN’s net zero carbon goal and the Paris Agreement by 2050.
