Soccer gets involved with the environment. The stadiums of 24 soccer clubs signed an agreement with Ecoembes to recycle cans, plastic and briks, paper and cardboard through 3,000 garbage cans and containers installed in all these facilities.
Specifically, this initiative is supported by clubs from La Liga Santander, La Liga Smartbank and Primera Federación. Specifically, they are Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, Villarreal, Betis, Celta de Vigo, Valladolid, Mallorca, Elche, Getafe, Cádiz, Málaga, Eibar, Lugo, Deportivo de la Coruña, Tenerife, Ponferradina, Las Palmas, Levante, Leganés, Gimnàstic de Tarragona, Algeciras and Real Balonpédica Linense.
For his part, the manager of Recycling and Out-of-Home Collection at Ecoembes, Alberto Cadeiro, indicated that the objective of the initiative is to “to get fans to enjoy the best soccer in a responsible way while taking care of the environment”. He added that the aim is also to make “environmental awareness part of the excitement of the big matches,” and thanked the clubs for their participation: “In this way, they set an example to their fans and encourage a healthy habit in future generations of soccer players.
In this way, soccer organizations aim to set an example to their fans with the goal of recovering as much packaging as possible. Already last year, Spanish fans recovered, for recycling, about 750 tons of plastic containers, cans and briks and 450 tons of paper and cardboard packaging.
