The 10.4 million euro investment project for the expansion of the smelter at Hydro Navarra continues successfully. The capacity to produce recycled aluminum will increase from the current 30,000 tons to 60,000 tons per year, contributing to improving the sustainability of the multinational’s products and the development of the local circular economy.
Hydro has launched a project to improve the capacity of its plant in Irurtzun (Navarra), to become one of the leading aluminum extrusion plants in Spain. The project, with an investment of 1.5 million euros, involves the transformation of the existing 9” extrusion press into a 10” press. This will increase the capacity to produce larger aluminum profiles, ensuring dimensional accuracy and maximum mechanical properties for the Spanish market.
Ana Vázquez, vice president of Hydro Extrusion in Spain and Portugal, said that “Our Irurtzun plant in Navarra has always been a pioneer in the development of R&D&I projects. We are proud to incorporate this new improvement that will allow us to offer better solutions adapted to the needs of the most demanding customers”.
In addition, the upgrade will allow Hydro to operate its largest extrusion press in Spain, enabling the production of larger and more precise aluminum profiles, applicable in multiple industrial sectors.
All Hydro plants in Spain and Portugal are ASI (Aluminum Stewardship Initiative) certified, which recognizes responsible production, supply and management in the aluminum value chain.
