AkzoNobel, the leading paint company, announced Wild Wonder as the Color of the Year 2023. The positive and proud glow is strongly supported by its energizing content and denotes a positive mood.

Today there is a great interest of people to seek connection, inspiration and balance in today’s world. Some are interested in handmade objects, organic food, yoga and mindfulness for a greater state of psychological calm. A team of experts who spent many years researching global social, design and consumer trends found hope in turning visions toward natural color.

Heleen van Gent, Creative Director of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetics Center, comments that “Wild Wonder speaks to us in a language we instinctively understand.” She adds that the reason “Wild Wonder” was named is because they were inspired by animal colors. For the first time in 20 years, his entire palette is inspired by the strains of a wild melody.

Four decorative paint color palettes have been designed around Wild Wonder: Lush Colors (forest shades), Buzz Colors (meadow brights), Raw Colors (harvest shades) and Flow Colors (seashore shades). For consumers customizing their homes and urban environments, palettes make it easy to choose wall colors for a timeless look that is also on trend.

Michael Friede, who holds the position of commercial director at Performance Coatings, says, “Our research expertise is invaluable to industrial customers and those looking for the perfect finish.” He also points out that one of his projects is to share this colorful story steeped in nature with our customers.

The color of the year is the spark of inspiration that ignites a long-term design partnership with industrial coatings customers. On-trend colors, textures and special effects have been designed for the aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, metal furniture, lighting, cabinetry, flooring, building products and architecture markets, as well as decorative paints. Using innovative digital tools such as the AkzoNobel Design app, coatings experts and customers work together to create the best finish for their products.

The year 2023 brings two major events for the Global Aesthetic Center. Its trend forecast, which celebrates its twentieth year of existence, also prepares the inauguration of its ColorFutures mock-up area specially built for this event. The team also reaches 30 years of being a dedicated institute for color ethics or color research and design and art direction at AkzoNobel.
